Selecting a Ribbon

Selecting the right thermal transfer ribbon is key to achieving high-quality prints and protecting your printer’s printhead. These ribbons are ideal for barcode, shipping, and product labels. To prevent printhead wear and ensure full coverage, choose a ribbon slightly wider than your label—at least 4.0625" for 4" labels on left-justified printers, and at least 0.20" wider than the label on center-justified printers.

Resin-Enhanced Wax

Offers an economical solution for high-volume, everyday labeling, delivering sharp text and barcodes on coated, uncoated paper and synthetic labels at fast print speeds. Ideal for shipping, warehouse, inventory, and short-term product labeling. Resin-Enhanced Wax offers excellent print quality up to 12 IPS. *H-version is not intended for uncoated Facesheets. 

Resin-Enhanced Wax with Clean Start® Leader

Provides reliable, budget-friendly print quality for everyday labeling, featuring a built-in printhead cleaner that helps extend printhead life and reduce maintenance. Ideal for shipping, retail, and warehouse labeling, this economical ribbon delivers sharp barcodes and text at fast speeds, while reducing smudging compared to direct thermal printing, making it perfect for high-volume, general-purpose indoor applications. *For third-party Industrial and Desktop Printers only, not Avery Dennison Tabletop or Desktop Printers.

Premium Wax-Resin 

Offers premium print quality with a balance of durability and versatility, producing crisp, smudge and scratch-resistant prints that outperform standard wax ribbons. Ideal for product, retail, logistics, healthcare, and industrial labeling. They work well on coated paper, synthetics, and glossy materials, and provide moderate resistance to moisture and abrasion—suitable for limited outdoor use when paired with synthetic labels.  Increased print contrast may be required to obtain optimum barcode quality.

Premium Near-Edge Wax-Resin

Delivers sharp, smudge-resistant prints at high speeds, perfect for blow-on label applicators and near-edge printheads. Designed for flexible packaging, films, foils, synthetics, and coated paper labels, they offer durability against moisture, abrasion, and moderate chemicals—making them ideal for food, medical, retail, and industrial labeling with limited outdoor performance when paired with synthetic labels.

Resin

Offers the highest level of durability, delivering sharp, long-lasting prints that resist scratching, smudging, chemicals, moisture, heat, and UV exposure. Ideal for extreme environments and long-term labeling needs, it’s perfect for chemical drums, industrial parts, medical devices, electronics, and outdoor applications. Best used on synthetic materials like polyester, polypropylene, and vinyl. Resin ribbons ensure permanent identification where durability is critical.  Resin ribbons require “higher than normal” print energy at a slower speed.
